New Economy Shakeout Is Old Story

from the history-repeats-itself dept

A well thought out look at what’s happening in the shakeout and how it compares to shakeouts in the past. The main thing is that new products are thought of as either “breakthrough” products or “reform” products. The problem was that most companies thought they were creating breakthrough products, when they really were reform products – and companies need to act differently (and realize that consumers will act differently) when dealing with each type of product. I do think the advice at the end that any entrepreneur should simply “not” get involved in a new dot com enterprise is a bit stupid and short-sighted though. There are still plenty of good ideas out there – it’s just how you create and build them that will be important.
