When Convergence Offers No Benefits

from the try,-try-again dept

Red Herring looks at the much hyped convergence home entertainment PC from Sony and realizes there’s not much value in the converged product. They point out that you could basically buy the separate components from Sony for the same price. Plus, you’d be getting a faster PC and you wouldn’t have to keep the whole thing in one room, either. Isn’t part of the wonders of convergence that you’d be paying less for the combined device than purchasing everything separately? Maybe they just assume that early adopters are completely clueless when it comes to pricing things out.
