Consequences Of Internet News Coverage During Crises

from the interesting-stuff dept

An interesting look into what the consequences are of internet journalism during a crisis. The article brings up some interesting points. Some of the conclusions the writer comes to are that the internet undermines “official” sources of information, the media becomes more of a factor in the crisis itself (in that it is used by everyone within a crisis to promote certain ideas or to distribute information), multiple perspectives tend to get covered, and each individual has a lot more control over the quality of knowledge and information that he or she obtains. I don’t think any of these (or the other conclusions I didn’t mention here) are earth shattering – but they are useful in trying to rethink the importance of the media in relation to its coverage of international events.
