Some Microsoft researchers are apparently using airbag trigger sensor technology to improve PDA displays. Apparently, the various “tilt” sensors can be used to allow an image on a PDA screen to change as the device is tilted – thus creating something of a 3D image within the PDA. It could let people view larger documents, or more complicated images, by moving around their handheld devices as they try to view the image. Of course, by the time they have it perfected, we’ll all have moved on to headsup displays that will require us to roll our heads around to view things in 3D…
