Yet Another Music Service
from the nice-try dept
Each time a new major-label backed music service gets introduced, someone with too much PR on the brain announces that this one will change everything. So, it’s no surprise to see EMI and Liquid Audio announcing that their new music service, BurnItFirst is going to revolutionize the online music business. The innovation this time is that they finally let people burn their own CD or transfer the music to certain digital devices. Though, it’s very limited – and you still have to pay $9.95/month to get only 20 songs. I’m not sure it really qualifies as “a completely new model”, as the Liquid Audio VP claims. All of these systems miss that one of the great things about any of the music sharing programs was the ability to experiment with new music. Because the labels are so greedy, they don’t realize that letting people experiment with music brings new fans who are willing to spend money on the music.
