Venter Gets Okay To Build Artificial Lifeform

from the modeled-after-himself? dept

Craig Venter is nothing if not controversial. The man who made sure it it was his own genome being analyzed by Celera (despite promises that it was to be a random selection) is now getting ready to create an artificial life. He had announced plans to do so three years ago, but was waiting to receive approval from an ethics group. Based on reports concerning Venter’s ego, you get the feeling he’s trying to create a “mini-me” for himself. However, Venter says he’s being very careful to make sure that certain precautions are being taken to prevent ethical violations.
