DoCoMo, AT&T Wireless To Start Scaled Back U.S. 3G Service

from the it-all-depends-on-your-point-of-view dept

What a difference a headline makes. Reuters has a story excitedly talking up the plans from AT&T Wireless and DoCoMo to launch a high speed 3G wireless service in the US. The plans are to launch their W-CDMA network within four US cities (San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas and San Diego) by the end of 2004. Sounds great, right? Except that this other article points out that AT&T Wireless and DoCoMo’s original plans were much more ambitious. They were going to roll out in 13 cities by June of 2003. So, it’s going to be a year and a half late in less than a quarter of the cities. Not quite as exciting.
