A clearly confused Danish court has ordered a news search engine to stop linking to a Danish newspaper’s website. Basically, this judge has just ruled that the concept of the internet is illegal. Brilliant. The Danish newspaper claimed that the news search site couldn’t link to them unless they paid for the right. Has anyone explained to the newspaper that if they didn’t want people to link to them, they shouldn’t be online in the first place? Or, if they really wanted to be stupid, they could block users out through a variety of different technologies? Instead, they’re driving people away from visiting their own website. According to my Danish roommate, the ruling in this case only applies to the website of the newspaper in question, and an appeal is currently underway.
