Spam Filters Required
from the it's-spam-day-at-Techdirt dept
I guess today is spam day at Techdirt. Following two different posts on the downsides of spam filters, Business Week has an article telling companies that they aboslutely, positively should install spam filters. In fact, the article says that if they don’t do so voluntarily, they may be required to legally. The argument is that some employees may sue companies for sexual harassment due to the explicit nature of many porn spam messages these days. On the issue of accidentally blocking legitimate emails, the writer brushes off those concerns saying it’s a fair “sacrifice”. I think that’s a little extreme and simplifies the problem. It does nothing to address what happens to people like Ed Felten who are accidentally accused of spam – and then completely shut off with no recourse.
