China's Cyberspace Censorship, Bad For Business
from the time-to-reconsider dept
The New York Times (which was once blocked by China, but eventually unblocked) has an op-ed piece recommending that China stop blocking sites for its own good. Obviously, China is blocking sites that express political viewpoints contrary to the current government’s. However, as the NY Times points out, China is also working hard to increase private investment, build new businesses, and compete in the “global market”. By doing silly, petty things like blocking Google, they’re simply encouraging companies to stay away, realizing that China isn’t really offering a free and open internet, which could make business more difficult.
