Police Believe Terror Alert From The Onion

from the ahhh,--humor dept

Back in June, a Chinese news organization got confused when they believed that a story in the Onion was real. At the time, we chalked it up to cultural differences in understanding humor. It seems that police in Michigan also have such cultural differences after they issued a terrorist “telemarketing” alert based on an Onion story. The writer of the alert claims, not surprisingly, not to have any sense of humor… er, I mean, not to have known that the Onion was a humor site. He also claims that he checked the story out with the Michigan Attorney General’s office, though a spokesperson there suggests that they find the Onion quite amusing, and wouldn’t have confirmed any story that came from it.
