Hard Drives As The New VHS Tape

from the let's-look-at-your-hard-drive-collection dept

News.com has an article about various consumer electronics makers considering the idea of using removable hard drives for storage in their devices. It’s an idea that could make a lot of sense. Hard drives continue to get smaller and cheaper with more storage space, so the situation only gets better over time. It also makes the various consumer electronics devices much cheaper – while letting consumers share hard drives bought separately between multiple devices. So, the consumer can spend less overall (or buy more devices). Of course, this also means that you could store movies and TV programs on hard drives and then give them to friends which (I’m sure) already has Hollywood busting down the doors of their local politician to ban the “evils” of removable hard drives.
