Merger Could Spawn More Copyproof CDs

from the just-what-we-need dept

It seems that with all the consumer backlash going around, Midbar and Macrovision, two of the big names in creating copyprotection technology have decided its better to face the angry crowds together. They’re going to merge the two companies – and hope that it will also help establish their technology as the “standard” to use in copy protection. Of course, no matter what technology they provide, someone will still figure out a way around it, meaning that pirates will still pirate music. The people who get hurt, of course, are those who want to excercise their fair use rights.
