Sony, Philips To Buy DRM Company, InterTrust
from the intertrust,-anti-trust,-what's-the-difference? dept
It seems that the folks in Hollywood have made it clear that they don’t want to be fighting over which digital rights management technology to use. They just want to stop people from copying stuff as quickly as possible – so if the various DRM players could just sort themselves out, that would be appreciated. That explains the merger last week between Macrovision and Midbar and explains some of the reasons why Sony and Philips have teamed up to buy DRM company InterTrust. What I’m wondering is how Sony and Philips are allowed to work together on such a purchase – since it sounds like collusion of some sort by two market leaders.
