'3' Hong Kong Offers Handset Discounts

Hutchison Whampoa launched their 3G network in HK on January 27, and at the time we observed that they may be more successful in their home turf than they had been in European markets where their 3G services have stuttered. Well, one month after launch, ‘3’ HK is offering a 10% handset discounts for corporate users who purchase 5 or more phones. I think that this discount is just business as usual, and I don’t think it’s a sign that the HK operation is following in the footsteps of the UK ‘3’ network. Despite all of Hutch’s mis-steps, hubris, bravado, and market miscalculations, we still hope it the best in all of its markets. Techdirt is keen to see the 3G bugs swatted for the sake of everyone, and we would delight more in a successful ‘3’ launch than we ever could in a flop.
