Can A Wicked Website Stop Youth Crime?

from the nice-try dept

The UK government has apparently spent quite a lot of money on creating a cartoony website telling kids what a life of crime is about. At what point do the people who make up these sorts of things realize that most kids see through any attempt at this type of information? Kids – especially those likely to cause trouble – have enough street smarts to know when something is fake and when they’re being lectured to. I’d imagine this website is mostly going to be ignored – but in the few cases where kids look at it, it’s mostly going to be to make fun of it. Instead of talking down to the kids with “fake” stories, why not create a real forum where troubled kids can interact in more positive ways? The internet isn’t a one-way medium, but it always appears that way to those who think they need to teach lessons to others.
