2,400 Employees Laid Off By Text Message
from the ouch dept
Just a couple of weeks ago someone in Australia was suing after claiming he was “unfairly dismissed” – since the note of his firing came via SMS text message. If he has any sort of case, you have to wonder what’s going to happen with the 2,400 employees of The Accident Group, a UK insurance company. Apparently, on Friday, administrators from PriceWaterhouseCoopers decided the best way to inform the employees of the firm that it was being shut down was to send them all a text message telling them they were being laid off and would no longer be paid. Not quite sure who was responsible for such a method of mass firing, but it sounds particularly cruel.
