As Expected FCC Votes To Loosen Media Ownership

from the debates-continue dept

By this point, this should surprise no one, but as expected, the FCC today

voted to loosen media ownership rules, which are likely to lead to consolidation among media companies. There has been quite a fierce debate on this topic in the last month or so, but it didn’t seem to change the expected final ruling. The debate continues to rage, as media people all over the place are registering their predictions for what it all means. Almost every opinion piece I’ve seen on this topic seems to assume a final outcome and then pick and choose points to support how that’s going to happen. I’m not convinced either side is right – but one thing you can count on: it really doesn’t matter what people are going to predict. We’ll find out soon enough what this leads to.
