Shirky Trashes The Semantic Web

from the taking-a-step-back dept

In the last few months, I’ve seen more and more people start trashing the idea of the semantic web, which so many people have been fascinated with for so long. The latest is Clay Shirky who does a good job walking through some of the problems with the ideas behind the semantic web, and in doing so brings up some of the basic issues involved with meta-data. It’s not that meta-data isn’t useful, but that some folks who are so obsessed with meta-data sometimes miss out on the fact that meta-data doesn’t solve everything.
