International Digital Divide Narrowing Quickly

from the not-that-big-of-a-problem,-apparently dept

It seems that every other week a report comes out saying that the digital divide is a problem, followed the next week by a study saying that the digital divide isn’t a problem or is going away. This must be the second week. The UN has put out a report saying that the digital divide among nations is decreasing much faster than anyone anticipated. While there are still gaps, the study found that, even in many very poor nations, people did have access to things like a telephone, if they needed to use it. Still, that doesn’t mean the people are actually using the technology, but it does suggest that the problem isn’t one of getting infrastructure built.
