Bill Introduced To Require Hacked Account Alert

Following a similar bill recently passing in the state of California, Senator Feinstein from California has introduced a bill in Congress that would require any site that believes its data might have been compromised to alert anyone who was possibly at risk. Of course, some people have said the California law is practically a national law already – because companies (even if they’re elsewhere) would need to inform their California residents. The FBI is against this bill, as they would prefer that companies only tell them if there was a breach, and let them sort out the problems. Of course, the bigger issue is that, right now, most companies don’t tell anyone. So, your personal information might have been stolen, but companies don’t want to tell you because it might look bad.
