More Backlash Against Jack Valenti's Decision To Ditch Award Screeners

from the seems-like-an-unpopular-move dept

Looks like Jack Valenti isn’t winning too many people over with his plan to prevent copies of movies from ending up online by preventing studios from sending out “screener” DVDs to those who vote for the Academy Awards and the Golden Globs. Now, a group of well-known movie directors have signed an open letter to Valenti asking him to repeal the brand new ban. Among the letter’s signatures are those from Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Sophia Coppola, Robert Redford, Barry Levinson, Norman Jewison, Pedro Almodovar, Bernardo Bertolucci, Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Jonze and many many more. Not exactly a list of nobodies. Valenti responded by thanking them for the note, saying he appreciated all the time they wasted in putting it together, because the ban is going to stay.
