Voice Is Still Data… Even In Flight

from the good-luck-with-that-plan dept

Yet another new study that will probably surprise very few people is noting that only 11% of people want mobile phones to be allowed on airplanes for voice communications, but 64% would like data cellular connections. Of course, that’s where things get tricky. After all, voice really is just data, so if you’re offering data, it becomes quite difficult to ban voice as well. Still, it seems pretty clear that plenty of people are quite worried about the impact of yakking-in-flight, despite the fact that people are allowed to talk while flying right now. It seems likely that airlines will figure out ways to accommodate this with things like “no call” sections.
