When Your Bank Has No Clue How Much Money You Have

The Royal Bank of Canada is still trying to sort out the mess from last week when their computer “upgrade” appears to have stopped processing transactions, meaning that money that should have gone into accounts (especially direct deposit payroll checks) never showed up. The bank won’t explain exactly what went wrong, though they admit that’s because everyone who understands it has been busy working on the fix. Still, this does make you pause and wonder about how much we rely on computer systems to function properly to go about our daily lives.
