EU Regulators Call A Mulligan On Software Patents
from the start-all-over-again dept
Last week, we noted the conflicting reports on the status of software patents in Europe. While the proposal had suffered a series of defeats, some still expected it to be approved this week. However, that’s not going to be the case. While the procedural issues aren’t entirely clear, it looks like committee has basically called for a “do over,” and agreed to start the entire process again. Those pushing against software patents are cheering this on, as the momentum certainly seems in their favor. Of course, who knows what will happen the second time around? Either way, what is clear, is that making software patentable will not be approved any time soon in Europe.
