Sun Finally Rolls Out Hosted Grid Computing Offering

from the took-'em-long-enough dept

They’ve only been talking about it for years, but Sun has finally rolled out their pay-per-use grid or utility hosted computing solution that will let users pay based on how much they actually use. Remember, this was supposed to be the big computing battle of like 2003 between HP, Sun and IBM — except that not too many people showed up. Part of the problem has been poor marketing, but even more importantly companies just aren’t that comfortable with the concept while others don’t see why they should outsource something they still view as a core competency rather than a commodity (apologies to Nicholas Carr, of course).
