Amateur Sleuths Flock To Cases Online

from the finding-killers-online dept

A few years ago, there was a story about “open source sleuthing”, where a group of people would (more or less for the hell of it) try to solve “missing person/unidentified body” cases online. It’s not just those types of cases, apparently. With so much interest in the “BTK serial killer” who was apparently caught, it turns out that there has been a tremendous (and sometimes obsessive) effort among amateur cybersleuths to try to solve the crime, or at least to keep up on all of the info related to it. In fact, one such sleuth apparently got police interested in himself despite being born after the initial BTK murders.
