E-Filers Not Worried About Security
from the e-file-away dept
It appears that all of the various security breaches getting publicity recently haven’t scared away people from e-filing. It turns out the number one reason people aren’t e-filing their tax returns this year is that difficulty in doing e-filing if you had a professional do your taxes for you. In the meantime, though, is it really any surprise that the IRS website is getting bombarded by visitors? Still, though, this highlights the fact that, for many people, convenience is much more important than security.

I had no problems...
I used Intuit’s TurboTax for Macintosh. 24 hours later and $30 poorer, both the Feds and my state accepted my returns.
What’s the big deal here? Is this really an issue? I remember when I didn’t do e-File years ago when it was some 3rd-party company I had to dial into. But Intuit is doing it all now, making it brainlessly easy.

Until e-filing is a completely free service without having to jump through hoops (rebates don’t count since you are paying for it to begin with), I will put my 37c stamp on the envelopes and send them in the old way.
