Who Will Create A Crash Proof System First: Ford Or Microsoft?
from the physician-heal-thyself dept
Bill Gates is the target of so much humor and ire, that it hardly seems worthwhile to make fun of him most of the time. However, sometimes he sets himself up so perfectly, that it’s impossible to resist. Today at the Microsoft Global Automotive Summit, Gates and Bill Ford Jr. were extolling the virtues of technology and how it will help cars of the future to fix themselves and avoid accidents. Addressing summit participants, Mr. Gates (yes, the creator of notoriously crash-prone Windows) told auto industry members that their goal should be to create a car that won’t crash. (Alanis, take note: that’s ironic.) If I’m Bill Ford, I have to be thinking, “Uh, Bill? Maybe your goal should be to create an operating system that won’t crash.”

Whither Mike
I’m just not sure if I can adjust to people other than Mike posting Techdirt articles. Brett, one-handed Dennis, and now costanza… where will it all end up?
Re: Whither Mike
It sounds more professional if it isn’t Mike’s one-man show anymore. But then, his underlings may suggest modernizing this web site, or other suggestions he doesn’t like. Of course, we should always keep this in a Slashdot wannabe format. 😀
Re: Whither Mike
Other people have been posting to TD for years. However, for the past two months we have been making more of an effort to get more of our analysts posting stories to the front page on a regular basis. The fact that it took about two months for you to notice suggests you’ll be able to adjust just fine. 😉
Re: Re: Whither Mike
What, you got your “analysts” to make their token postings? Looks like you’ve managed to create a homogeneous clique. I don’t sense the diversity of viewpoints that would describe a great media outfit, though.

At this point, would anyone drive a car that has any control given to a microsoft system?
DOUBLE DOUBLE Irony
Just to be clear about this:
(1) Bill Gates wants every car to run embedded Windows in its control system.
(2) Bill Gates wants cars to be built that don’t crash.
(3) Therefore, Windows has to become uncrashable first.

Give me a break. I’ve been using XP for a couple of years now, and it hasn’t crashed once on me. I’m sick and tired of all the constant bashing that Microsoft gets for previous OSes (98, etc) that crashed a lot.
