A Rating System For The News
from the news-you-can-trust? dept
Just yesterday we brought up Sam Whitmore’s idea from last year of a Zagat’s style rating system for news sources. Apparently, the timing was right. Today, Business Week is pointing out that just such a service is launching, called Newstrust. Now it will be interesting to see whether or not it actually matters. How many people would actually pay attention to the such a rating? People find the sites they like and they stick with them. Also, this isn’t quite a Zagat’s-style system, as it’s just rating the overall sites, rather than rating them on various issues.

just another front for warring ideologies
If a site is good, people will link to it and eventually it will become known and attract a readership. Site ratings are just another opportunity for ballot stuffing and intimidation by fanatics of all stripes.
New is forsale...
…just like everything else in the world.
All you need to do is travel around a bit and you’ll get an idea that, from country to country, the takes on the “news” is very, very different.
One should *NEVER* confuse “News”(tm) with the “Truth”(R) or even “Reality”(c).
