Acacia Goes After Universities With Number One Bogus Patent
from the gotta-get-as-much-as-possible-before-invalidated dept
Apparently realizing that they need to try to extort as much cash as possible from companies before their patent gets invalidated (after all, it made the number one spot on the EFF’s list of bogus patents that they’re working to invalidate), Acacia isn’t stopping at suing every cable and satellite TV company (this, after they went after porn sites and internet radio stations). Now, they’re sending warning letters to colleges and universities that stream content online. How, exactly, is all of this encouraging innovation? As far as I can tell, it’s encouraging lawyering, and making it much more difficult for plenty of companies and educational institutions to innovate.
