Mobile Phone Thief Asks For, Then Gets, 99 Year Prison Sentence
from the welcome-to-jail dept
No one ever said that criminals were particularly intelligent. It appears that one particular criminal, who was on trial for stealing a single mobile phone, did everything possible to antagonize the jury — leading him to receiving a 99-year sentence. He had a number of prior convictions for theft, and then proceeded to show less than no remorse. Instead, he testified about his philosophy in life: “There’s things I choose to do, like, if I go in a store and choose to take a Snicker’s bar. If you catch me, you catch me. If not, I’m going to go home and eat it up and go on about my business, dog.” He also made an “obscene hand gesture” at someone he tried to rob (but failed).
