Have You Had Your Consciousness Calibrated?

from the how-does-that-work-now? dept

malhombre writes in with a link to the news that a former personal assistant to musician Carlos Santana was fired after someone named Dr. Dan “calibrated his consciousness” and determined it was too low. The guy is suing for wrongful termination, but he’s likely to have a hard time of it. California is an “at will” state where you can fire anyone for any reason that doesn’t fit the definition of discrimination as set out by state or federal law (pretty much covered by: age, disability, national origin, color, race, religion or sex). There’s nothing in there about… um… “consciousness.” At best, maybe the guy could claim it was a “disability,” but even that’s kind of a stretch. Either way, that really isn’t all that interesting. What I’m curious about is exactly how one goes about “calibrating your consciousness.” Can we buy a gadget for that? I don’t recall seeing one of those on the various gadget blogs out there. Update: A good point is made in the comments about how the claims are based on “religious” discrimination — as Dr. Dan’s consciousness calibration supposedly had something to do with spirituality and how close you were to God.

No Case?

I think the qutoes below are fair examples of religious discrimination.
“””Bruce Kuhlman, 59, charges that Santana’s wife, Deborah, brought in a man known as “Dr. Dan” so employees could grow closer to God and become better workers.”””
“”””In Deborah’s view, the higher a person calibrated with Dr. Dan, the better employee they were because they were more ‘spiritually evolved,’ ” the lawsuit said.”””
