Nobody Wants Palm OS

from the play-it-again-sam dept

While it’s true that Motorola was in the bidding for PalmSource, apparently its motivation wasn’t to get Palm OS. The Register says what Motorola — and eventual buyer Access — wanted was PalmSource’s business selling phone applications to OEMs in China, which PalmSource itself acquired when it bought China MobileSoft last year. Evidently Access is pretty ambivalent about keeping the Palm OS, and Palm (the company) is waiting for the right time to buy it back. Which would leave us right back where we were several years ago, when Palm was Palm, and the one-company-fits-all wasn’t working either.
