Aren't You Glad You Went To All That Trouble?

Details are a little sketchy on this, but for a while today, access to Google.cn — the Chinese version of Google that’s stirred up so much controversy — was unavailable from China, while the normal Google.com site was available. In case you haven’t been paying attention, that’s the exact opposite situation of what Google and the Chinese government had mind. It’s not clear exactly what happened, but requests for google.cn were being blocked in the same manner at the China Net backbone as other sites that can’t be accessed through “The Great Firewall”. Google said it was looking into the matter, but don’t hold your breath waiting for the details.

If the chinese handle this the way they normally do a number of google employees should be sentenced to death or a life of forced labor (good for Walmart at least).
