Location Based Services Evolving
A couple of years back when people started talking about location-based services it was always about getting a coupon as you passed a Starbucks or McDonalds. It looks like we’ve moved past that and companies are working on a wider variety of applications. But how do you get consumers to use these or any wireless applications? The only way is to create applications where the value is immediately recognizable. AT&T’s Find Friends app is neat, but how useful is it really? The same company that helped AT&T with Find Friends is also working on a real-time traffic rerouting application. If the application works and saves me time, I can see the value of sharing my location information. But unless I see the value of sharing that info, I’m not giving it up.
