Thumbs Up For Text Rivals

We know that folks in the UK use text messaging a lot more than we do here in the states, but apparently, it’s gotten so popular that it’s reached the point of having text messaging competitions. A mobile phone store in the UK is running the UK National Text Championships where they see just how fast people can send SMS text messages. There are local rounds which will lead up to a national final (done, for full effect, in a boxing ring). There are still some questions about rules, though, because people with larger phones seem to have a bit of advantage. They also quote someone saying that her secret to success is skipping vowels. I would think, to make the competition fair, that everyone should be required to send identical messages – but perhaps I’m missing the point.
