European Companies Committed To Wireless Plans

It should come as no surprise that 75% of European companies surveyed by IBM plan to deploy wireless applications. With SMS commonplace and great GSM coverage, businesses are already wireless data savvy. What is surprising is that these companies haven’t decided on a technology for their wireless data applications. While 60% believe that 3G will play a role for them by the end of 2003, they are also evaluating solutions built on GSM, GPRS and Wi-Fi. Much of this will be driven by costs and the nature of the applications. Constrast this with the US market, where enterprises want mobile applications, but their biggest obstacle is having sufficient wireless coverage to make it worth their while.
