Mobile TV Trial Results

The first results from Finland’s mobile TV trial are in, and the companies involved are doing their best to spin them as positive. They say the services were popular because 58% of the trial users said that “they believe that mobile TV services will be popular”. So, instead of asking the users what they thought, they asked them to predict what people will think of mobile TV, and a slight majority’s opinion on that means everything was great. The release also says users watched between 5 and 30 minutes of television per day, but as this was a trial, not a commerical service to which they’d subscribed, that’s not surprising given the way people have said they’ll watch mobile TV if it’s free. As much as companies backing mobile TV want it to succeed, just ’cause, there’s been very little real evidence to indicate that’s going to happen.
