Will They Never Learn?

Several months ago, we noted how yet another of Vodafone Japan’s missteps was trying to sell foreign phones in Japan — phones that may have been cutting-edge in Europe, but were a few years behind the times in Japan. Just last month, the carrier said it would pull back from the strategy, but apparently it’s not, announcing today it will start selling a Nokia phone that’s been available in Europe since March. Again, it’s a handset that won’t turn any heads in Japan, either with its design or with its specs. No wonder Vodafone investors are upset about the company’s performance in the country — when it says it realizes it had a bad strategy, then continues on with it anyway, it’s hard to think they’ll ever get things right.
