Men Are From SMS, Women Are From Voice
There have been lots of studies that have attempted to detail just how men and women use mobile phones differently, so it comes as little surprise that they have fairly different views of text messaging, too. Men “primarily use messaging as a tool for managing their relationships” while women “view text as another way to foster emotional interaction” — but the article seems to try to paint text messages as some blight on modern romance. It’s not hard to imagine similar sentiments being expressed when telephones started to impinge on the domain of love letters, but, as far as I can tell, we’ve all managed to keep things going. It’s little wonder that people use new communications technologies to communicate, whether it’s within the scope of romance or outside it. Those technologies are neither good nor bad on their own, it’s a question of how people use them.
