UK Operators Spar Over Ads
Companies often take potshots at their competitors in their own advertising, but some UK carriers’ ad strategy is a little different — they’re complaining to the country’s Advertising Standards Authority about claims their competitors are making in their marketing materials, apparently ignoring the old saying that people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. The lastest complaint came from Orange, which said the advertising for T-Mobile’s web’n’walk service was misleading, because it says “the Internet wherever you are”, when T-Mobile only covers 86% of the UK with its network. The regulator ruled against T-Mobile, as it did last month, saying another ad could give people the impression it was okay to use office equipment while they drove a car.
