BlackBerry To Support Google Applications

Google has struck a deal to bundle support for Google Talk and its Google Local Maps application into Blackberry devices. This follows its deal last week to get a Google button on Motorola phones, and previous work with carriers like T-Mobile to use it as their mobile internet portal. The moves by Google and its rivals like Yahoo points to an effort on their part to team up with device manufacturers to subvert mobile operators’ spot as the gatekeeper for their subscribers’ mobile surfing. But, with carriers selling the vast majority of handsets, and their proclivity for picking and choosing what features they let their phones support, any attempts cut out the carriers may be short-lived.
