Rambus The Latest To Have 'Insider' Posting Anonymously On Message Boards

Last month the news came out that the CEO of Whole Foods was (anonymously) active on stock message boards about the company’s stock. It really shouldn’t be that surprising that top insiders would pay some attention to the stock message boards — and the temptation must be pretty strong to step in, especially when some questionable comments come up. In fact, it’s almost surprising we haven’t seen more such stories. The latest is that the wife of Rambus’ CEO was apparently quite active on certain stock message boards defending the company and the CEO specifically on many occasions. Of course, what makes this even more interesting is that Rambus is famous for having really rabid stock message board followers (who have attacked us in the past for questioning the strategy of the company that some believe is not much more than a glorified patent troll). So, we have to wonder if it was some of that rabid fandom that resulted in the CEO’s wife taking part… or was it family and friends who helped build up that core group of blind supporters?

What kind of moron takes investment advice from a message board that anyone can game? So what if a CEO anonymously touting his company? Serves people right for not doing objective research and taking some strangers word at face value.

Rambus is the victim of IP theft from many RAM manufacturers such as Samsung, Elpida, Hynix, et. al. I can’t see why anyone would deny this… executives from these manufacturers are doing jail time for it as we speak. Its pretty simple, Rambus invented the technology, the manufacturer sold it without a license. The nature of the U.S. legal system is not in Rambus’ favor. It takes years, perhaps decades to prove the damages.
I would also add that Rambus stock is almost certainly manipulated, maybe not by insiders, but by forces on Wallstreet. The classic moment was last year just prior to the verdict in the Hynix trial when a false rumor that Rambus had lost the trial caused the stock to plunge. The Jim Cramer types then bought low at around $21 and sold a few minutes later at over $40 after the verdict in favor of Rambus was announced.
Moral of the story: If you are going to buy it, buy it now at $12.46 not next year at $47.
