Found over at Engadget is this article looking at why overhearing mobile phone conversations is annoying. Turns out it has less to do with the loudness of the conversation and more to do with the fact that you’re only hearing half of the conversation. This does make some sense when you think about it. With an ongoing conversation, it’s easy to fade it out – but when it’s start and stop, each time it starts again it recaptures your attention.
