Does NYC Need A Brand New Wireless Network Just For Emergencies?

Everyone knows that there’s an awful lot of wireless offerings in NYC, but Mayor Bloomberg feels they need at least one more for emergency and law enforcement services, and just about every wireless company around is drooling over the opportunity to send a large bill to the city. Of course, the overall reason for the network is vague, and you could make the argument that they can use existing infrastructure to accomplish much of what they’re looking to do. I wrote up a longer article about this over at TheFeature, which brings up the fact that I’ll be contributing there on a regular basis with longer, more in-depth pieces, some of which I’ll link to from here when appropriate.
