Gaming Companies Realize Mobile Gamers Can Play Against Each Other
Took ’em long enough. It looks like more and more companies are beginning to realize that the main function of a mobile phone is to connect with others. With that in mind, they’re finally starting to create more mobile multi-player games. Of course, they’re going about it as if the mobile handset was just a smaller version of a console, and focusing on games where people can play head-to-head against each other. A much more interesting development would be if they took into account the fact that people are mobile, and built that (via location based info) into account. There are a few of these sorts of games already (especially in Japan), but that’s where the real power of mobile multi-player gaming is going to be seen — because it really makes use of what makes a mobile phone different from a console.
