Xbox 360 Games To Be Available Before… Xbox 360

from the the-light's-on-but-nobody's-home dept

Pirate software sites used to go on about zero-day warez — pirated versions of material available on the day of its legitimate release. Ahead of the launch of the Xbox 360, Microsoft’s giving the pirates something of a head start on some zero-day cracks by selling games a week before the console goes on sale. Perhaps the thinking is to try to generate some buzz for the console launch by getting people talking about the games, but what will that buzz be? “Boy, this one has a neat box”?

Hype or Money?

I would think releasing the games a week earlier might result in a double purchase.
Timeline:
Week 1. Games released, eager gamers purchase their favorite titles.
Week 2. Console released, eager gamers purchase a console and throw in a few more games that have piqued their interest in the meanwhile.
It’s like getting new school clothes. The ones you buy at the beginning of the summer (and aren’t allowed to wear until school starts in the fall) aren’t nearly as cool as the ones you buy right before school starts!
Even looking at the box makes a game a little less exciting.

Re: No Subject Given

Well, one would argue that releasing games after the 360 launch isn’t ideal, so the other way around must be better!

Seriously, I think it is just another reason to do a press release to help reinforce the perception that the 360 has a big line up of games ready to go at launch. Perception is reality right?

Xbox 360 games out before launch.

I personally did not pre order an xbox 360 months ago like i should have… now any where i go they say that if i preorder on now i will get one 2-6 weeks after the launch date,,, Whaterver. I’m going to camp out side of wal-mart in a little town close to where i live, hopefully i will get one. the last thing i want to worrie about is the ability to get some kind of game with it, right now i dont care what game i just want to play the xbox 360. I think the reason why m$ is doing this is because people wil not buy the system if there no games out… so buy the games a week before you you know for sure you will have somthing to do with your 360.

Re: xbox 360 camp out

im campin out at stores that arent as popular like comp-usa or kmart, not stores u know r gonna be crowded like wal-mart or best buy. Plus im goin right after school on the 21st (about 2:30 pm)until midnight which is about 9 hours and 30 minutes so im not stressin’ over whether im gonna get one because im optimistic and pretty sure im gettin one.

one day wal-mart WILL rule the world- Wal-Mart Owner

Most systems do

Actually, I can’t remember a system that didn’t have games available for it prior to system launch. I know both the PSP and DS did. PS2 did with third party games at least. I am almost positive that both GC and Xbox both did. It just usually goes without saying. MS, Sony, and Nintendo pretty much say that it’s ok with the games, but just not to do it with they system.
