Folks have been making microwave popcorn for a few decades now, but there are other ways to make popcorn. Some old school methods actually involve fire… Here are a couple serving suggestions for popping a few kernels.
- Movie theaters used to use coconut oil for making popcorn. And now, coconut oil is trying to regain a healthy reputation. Apparently, virgin coconut oil is okay in moderation — and it’s the partially hydrogenated coconut oil that’ll get ya. [url]
- Popping a single kernel of corn with some lasers is probably not the safest or easiest way to make popcorn. Remember: do not look directly at laser with remaining eye. [url]
- As a reminder, making popcorn using cellphones was just a marketing hoax. It’s also not possible to cook an egg using your cellphone. [url]

Microwave popcorn is a pricey pain in the ass. Popping it in a pot on the stovetop is better and way, way cheaper – and really just as easy. And don’t get me started on those useless air-popping machines…

Use of this and similar substances is probably not such a good idea.
Popcorn... good to the last kernal
We often made pop corn over (in) the fire place. As nothing like running outside with giant fire that once was quickly popped, then burnt, then on fire pop corn. Ah the smell of burnt pop corn stayed in the house for days…
Then came the hot air popper. They worked fairly good but lots of unpopped seeds left over.
Microwave popcorn was nice but expensive. A few trail and errors and we did the brown paper bag trick. The smell of this burnt microwave popcorn would clean out in an hour.
After all that Theater popcorn is the the best. Could never really afford an industry popper like those ones. But now you can buy small home ones. My from Costco sits in the bar and make the best popcorn but no burnt smell.
How to cook popcorn before?
Making popcorn nowadays are really easy. You just need to set the microwave to the desired level of heat and you’re all set. Unlike before, we had to cook it using coconut oil or butter and we have to put it in a covered caserole set in a medium heat. Really crazy compared with the current process.
