Bemoaning The Death Of CDPD

In case you hadn’t noticed it (and there’s a good chance you hadn’t), it appears that CDPD is nearing the end of its lifetime as a wireless data network technology. Popular with some early wireless data systems, it’s (of course) quickly being surpassed by the various flavors of 2.5G and 3G technologies (and, yes, even WiFi, in some cases). So, as CDPD networks are being phased out, the three people in the world who still use them (I’m joking, I’m joking, don’t correct me on that…) are scuffling to figure out what they should switch to. Unfortunately, despite all the hype about 2.5G and other new network technologies, they don’t come anywhere near CDPD in terms of coverage. Of course, at the speeds CDPD sends data, you might as well hang onto until you reach an area that gives you a faster network and sending then.
